Step 3: Rebless rEFInd
- From off state, press the power button and
immediately hold down “Option” key
- Choose the internal “macOS” drive (typically “MacHD”) to boot into macOS
- NOTE: NEVER SELECT THE WINDOWS OPTION FROM THIS MENU; IT COULD DESTROY YOUR PARTITION TABLE AND FORCE YOU TO START OVER
- Login, open Terminal, and type in the following
commands:
- Type “
sudo mkdir /Volumes/ESP” then your password and hit “Enter” - Type
“
sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/ESP” and hit “Enter” - Type
“
sudo bless --mount /Volumes/ESP --setBoot –file /Volumes/ESP/efi/refind/refind_x64.efi” and hit “Enter” - It will seem like nothing happened, but it worked
- Type “
- Reboot
- Both the Windows and Apple logos should be
options to boot in rEFInd
- But there will also be a third option with a
Windows logo - “Legacy from NTFS volume” – which can be deleted
- Arrow over to that option and hit the “-“ key
- Arrow up to “Yes” and hit “Enter”
- But there will also be a third option with a
Windows logo - “Legacy from NTFS volume” – which can be deleted
And just like that, you have a dual-booting Mac. Unfortunately, it only gets more complicated the further you go into this process, but that’s to be expected when four different operating systems are all using the same area to boot from. Don’t worry, this guide will walk you through each step, explaining the importance, and offer suggestions fixes on issues that may arise, none of which as detrimental as selecting the Windows icon from the “Option” menu! Don’t do it!
